How Can a Find a List of WW2 Veterans?

Okay, my grandfather was in World War II and I want to ask him about what it was like but he just died this year so I just want to find out what he did and anything else I can learn about what he did. All I know is that he was seventeen when he went in and he worked on a ship in the boiler room and was discharged when a boiler exploded and hurt him. If anyone can find me a list of veterans that I could find his name on at least please tell me. Thank you.
